Talent is becoming very scarce at a rapid pace. To remain attractive for new talent and retain talent, it is important to work together as university, entrepreneurs and governments and bundle forces. We, therefore, developed an areal strategy to strengthen the position of Kennispark Twente in the battle for talent and to create an ecosystem that ensures talent is retained for both Kennispark and Twente.
Replacement of the masterplan
Old frameworks such as the masterplan area development Kennispark Twente from 2009 were no longer adequate. Only by collectively choosing for one course can we build a sustainable economic future for Kennispark Twente. The areal strategy was officially launched on the 22nd of February 2018 with the title: “Kennispark Twente: prime location for entrepreneurial talent and innovation”. Product of intensive process and collaboration
The areal strategy is the product of a process that took around a year. In that year, the views and opinions of all users of the area were retrieved through interviews, expert sessions, workshops and events. Together with the experts on economic and spatial campus development, a core team of people from the University of Twente, Novel-T, the municipality of Enschede and the province of Overijssel have established this strategy on behalf of the steering committee area development Kennispark Twente.
Co-creation
The areal strategy is a special achievement that we are proud of. It is the first time education, research, entrepreneurs and governments have set a course for Kennispark in one co-creation. It is also for the first time that both the “hardware” (buildings, public space, infrastructure) and the software (people, collaboration, profile) are integrally included.
Two pillars
The areal strategy can be summarised in two pillars that serve as a course for achieving the goals in 2030. Pillar 1 is strengthening our international profile and brand. As Kennispark, we will profile ourselves in the themes in which the university and the companies are strong. We are already world leaders on some elements, and we are going to communicate this more often and better. Pillar 2 is building a dynamic prime location. One area with one common and high-quality appearance. By adding housing, hospitality and retail and organising more and more events, we stimulate liveliness, during the day and in the evening.
Implementation of the strategy
The course that has been set out in this strategy contains broad lines that require elaboration on various sub-topics. With this areal strategy, a basis is provided for tactical decision-making by the participating partners on parts of the implementation of the strategy. A step that is often necessary before the actual implementation can be started.
